  2. The final guidelines will be distributed on June 1, 2005. The installation of crossings beneath or within 150 feet of the end of any railroad bridge, centerline of any culvert, or switch area is expressly prohibited by law. If railroad signals exist in the area of a wired crossing, a railroad signal representative must be present during installation unless the signal representative permits otherwise.
  1. In this case, the National Electrical Safety Code (the most recent edition issued) will be used, with the height of the train car presumed to be 23 feet. It will be necessary for the Railroad’s Engineering Department to assess each item on a case-by-case basis if the local governing body does not recognize the most recent published edition of the NESC.   3. The guys must be set in such a way that the pole is not leaning or falling in the direction of the tracks. In order to avoid conflict with railroad signals and communication lines, poles (including steel poles) must be placed at a minimum distance from them that equals the height of the pole above the groundline, or else they must be guyed at right angles to the lines. All crossings must be positioned at least 500 feet from the end of any railroad bridge and 300 feet from the centerline of any culvert or switch area
  4. Otherwise, the crossing will be considered unsafe. All new and replacement overhead wirelines that span the track(s) must be clearly designated with aerial cable markers, according to Union Pacific Railroad (Aerial Cable Markers Guide Lines, Engineering Standards).
  • In this case, the National Electrical Safety Code (the most recent edition issued) will be used, with the height of the train car considered to be 23feet.   • The guys must be set in such a way that the pole does not lean or fall in that direction. In order to avoid conflict with railroad signals and communication lines, poles (including steel poles) must be placed at a minimum distance from them that equals the height of the pole above the groundline, or else they must be guyed at an angle to the lines. All crossings must be a minimum of 500 feet from the end of any railroad bridge and 300 feet from the centerline of any culvert or switch area
